Contact lenses
Contact lens exams, fittings and check-ups
A contact lens fitting is part of an eye exam, with a few extra steps. Results vary from person to person, so the doctor starts with trial lenses and checks how they feel before you order.
A fitting measures the shape of your eye
Trial lenses to try before you buy a supply
A check-up after you start wearing them

Your fitting
What a fitting involves
An exam
A full exam first, so the doctor knows how you see and how healthy your eyes are.
The fitting
The doctor measures your eye and picks lenses that suit it and the way you live.
Trial lenses and teaching
You try the lenses, and an optical assistant shows you how to put them in, take them out and look after them.
A check-up
A short visit after you have worn them, so the doctor can see how they sit and how your eyes feel.
Your prescription is yours
After your fitting we give you a copy of your contact lens prescription, and you can fill it anywhere.
Questions about contacts
Is a contact lens fitting part of my regular exam?
A fitting is a separate step from a routine exam. We tell you which part is billed to which plan before you pay.
How long are my contact lenses good for?
The prescription has an end date, which the doctor tells you at the visit. Wear and replace your lenses only as the doctor says.
What if my eyes are red or sore after wearing contacts?
Take the lenses out and call an office. If you have sudden vision loss or severe pain, go to the emergency room.
